Direct thermal printing is a process that creates images on specially coated paper by selectively applying heat. Topcoat thermal paper has a protective layer on top of the thermal layer and can be varnished without hesitation. With non- topcoat thermal paper, the LED coating is in direct contact with the sensitive thermal layer. Some non-topcoat thermal papers have an absorbent surface and are not suitable for varnishing. To check the compatibility of the coating and the non-topcoat thermal paper preliminary tests are necessary. Keep in mind that with higher coating weight, print density and quality decreases. Evaluate the printout with a thermal printer. Ensure that barcodes are clear and scannable.
